This adapter is the perfect thing when you've got a new MacBook Pro, iMac, or Mac mini with a FireWire 800 Port and you want to connect your old FireWire camcorder, external hard drive, or MIDI device. I found it to be simple, solid, and inexpensive. As it does add an extra point of contact, just be careful about tugging on your cables.

When I got a new Macbook Pro, I needed an adapter to go from Firewire 400 to 800. This adapter saved the day! Without it, I wouldn't have been able to plug in my hard drive with all of my photography!

This weekend I finally broke down and upgraded my old and trusty MacBook to a new 13" MacBook Pro. My old MacBook has a Firewire 400 plug and the new MacBook Pro uses Firewire 800. In order to transfer the data from the old machine to the new machine via the Migration Assistant I needed to be able to connect the 2 computers together via Firewire. I had a couple of Firewire 400 cables in the drawer at home and decided to purchase this 6-Pin to 9-Pin Firewire Adapter. It worked flawlessly and I highly recommend this simple but well made adapter. Everyone with a new Mac with Firewire 800 should purchase this adapter.
